Sally: Line tests

One of the recurring characters is the precocious student robot Sally. She requires constant tune ups to remain at the top of her class. Part of deciding the look of a character and the whole show is the line. I'm not sure what I want yet. Maybe you can help me decide.

Robo Rhi before bed

Just before bed, because I remembered about her, here is robot Rhian listening to The Black Keys because she's awesome. There are sketches and marker pen coloured versions for her too. Again, they will be online when I'm less exhausted. Wednesday is a long and bonkers day on the course. It should be easier after christmas though and the Entrepreneurship module ends. Also, I can to to yoga then too = Happy Robo Rhi!

Many Robots

I designed a lot a robot characters as part of one of the ideas I had for the MA project. It is a female student robot who needs to improve her memory. I set about trying to design school girl robots. There will be many more I was just to tired to upload them all now.

Pod Backgrounds

The pod house is a little awkward perspectivly. As it is round I have to design as if through a fish eye lens. Its challenging. lets leave it at that. I changed the sort of layout from pre produection. I moved the floor up inside the pod so that there would be more floor space. Instead of separating out each room like the living room and kitchen into a separate part of the pod. I gave it a more open plan layout similar to the layouts that became fashionable in 1950's living space. I think its helping with that retro funky look as well as making for much nicer backgrounds. As it is a pod with limited space, fusing kitchen, living room and dinning room into one space makes a lot of sense, spacialy. Its still very rough and needs a lot of perspective adjustment. Im happy with the colour scheme. I have the colours follow through from section to section. The pink from the living room follows through to the kitchen, then the yellow from the kitchen follows through to the dinning room.

Insitus: Mice and Cookies

I am exploring the characters at the moment. One way to do this is to think about how they interact with each other and their environment. I tried to think of quirky little stories that would occur in a few episodes. I like the idea that the kids constructed this robotic mouse to keep MumBot occupied while they make their mischief. She would then develop an obsession with it close to Captain Ahab and Moby Dick. The scale is a bit off on the sequence with the mouse but it is a very quick rough.

More ad's

I've been doing a lot of work on the interior background spaces this past week. Hopefully they will be ready fro scanning today or tommorrow. For now here are some more adverts that will appear in the exterior shots on billboards and as poster. They also contain a few props that would appear in the show shuch Nuclear Ovens and Umbrellas designed to protect agains meteor showers. I created a large 'family orintated' company that could produce house hold stuff in the future similar to a company like General Electric today. I called them Anderson's as these sort of companies often like to prortray a family frienly image and one way they do so is by using the founders surname ie. Jergen's or Johnson and Johnson.

Opps been a while...

This must be one of the longest spells I've gone without uploading anything. So I've been working a lot on the sort of additional details for the world. I think detail is important as it will make the series more beliveable. These are billboard designs. I still need to design billboards to mount them onto and I'm toying with the idea of having them on separate planets as well as (or instead of) on top of buildings. Its been fun coming up with futuristic product ideas as well as researching ad campaigns from the '50's. I think they have that sort of vintage look while seeming futuristic. I think the content juxtaposes with the style. Also, these are still fairly rough in places. I need clean vector style robots in two of them.

Props and things

After the sweatbox I was up till twenty to four preparing for I was told to start on background and environment work. So I started with props. I want to create a powder room as well as some exterior environments tomorrow. These are two of the chair designs in use. Also I think this will be the basis for one other adverts I want to design. I see myself producing a few billboards and the like to advertise products available in this future to make the world seem more believable. This will be for one in which robot ladies can purchase various hair styles and weld them in place with the gun in the picture.

3 am.......grumble!

Its gone three in the morning and the reason I'm up so late is there is a sweatbox tomorrow morning. I have to pitch my major idea and hope 1. There is enough of it, and 2. They actually like the idea to start with. Hmmm I just finished this 1950's/Mary Blair inspired thing. Its very quick, I want to give it another go in illustrator later to get a cleaner version but I just needed to give an idea of what I want the show to look like. i'm posting it because the blog feels a bit neglected.
