Sally: Line tests

One of the recurring characters is the precocious student robot Sally. She requires constant tune ups to remain at the top of her class. Part of deciding the look of a character and the whole show is the line. I'm not sure what I want yet. Maybe you can help me decide.

Robo Rhi before bed

Just before bed, because I remembered about her, here is robot Rhian listening to The Black Keys because she's awesome. There are sketches and marker pen coloured versions for her too. Again, they will be online when I'm less exhausted. Wednesday is a long and bonkers day on the course. It should be easier after christmas though and the Entrepreneurship module ends. Also, I can to to yoga then too = Happy Robo Rhi!

Many Robots

I designed a lot a robot characters as part of one of the ideas I had for the MA project. It is a female student robot who needs to improve her memory. I set about trying to design school girl robots. There will be many more I was just to tired to upload them all now.

Rosie Riveter

This is a rudimentary promotional idea for a poster and an additional character design. The Character of Rosie is based on Rosie the Riveter, the inspirational character from the Second World War. I liked the idea of taking something from the past and transporting it way into the future.

Luna-Rover the Robot Dog

I was writing the plot for one of the possible ideas I fill further on my MA. Its about a futuristic workshop run by o Robotic Rosie the Riviter. In the story they build a robotic puppy called Luna-Rover after the Luna Rover used by Nasa astronauts in the Apollo days. Its relevant to the story as the characters live on the moon but more importantly I want to use the narrative to teach kids about history and science as well as providing life lessons. In the case of this story responsible pet ownership.

I think its likely that a lot of the artwork will be done in illustrator. However the influence for the style and character design is Mary Blair so I decided to try and get a little more of a tactile, handmade quality as her work does.

Effie Again :D

I want to get my last project to a polished level that I would be happy with, even though the project is over. In fact uni is over, graduated and everything (with a 1st by the way!) I want the printed book to be something I will be proud of, so I am going back to little projects I wanted to do but didn't have tme for during the project. I will be making more models. These are the graphics that will appear on the Hunger Games inspired store "Effie's Trinkets". I have been trying to master illustrator and these are the first real, proper, attempts I have made of artwork in the program. (I did a few character designs in 2nd year but very basic stuff, nothing worth mentioning.)

Tron Style

Very, very, very quick test for how the light would work on the the space suit. I like the idea that the suit produces its own light so they can all see each other in space. I decided to reference tron as a bit of an inside joke to all the science nerds.

Opps been a while...

This must be one of the longest spells I've gone without uploading anything. So I've been working a lot on the sort of additional details for the world. I think detail is important as it will make the series more beliveable. These are billboard designs. I still need to design billboards to mount them onto and I'm toying with the idea of having them on separate planets as well as (or instead of) on top of buildings. Its been fun coming up with futuristic product ideas as well as researching ad campaigns from the '50's. I think they have that sort of vintage look while seeming futuristic. I think the content juxtaposes with the style. Also, these are still fairly rough in places. I need clean vector style robots in two of them.

Props and things

After the sweatbox I was up till twenty to four preparing for I was told to start on background and environment work. So I started with props. I want to create a powder room as well as some exterior environments tomorrow. These are two of the chair designs in use. Also I think this will be the basis for one other adverts I want to design. I see myself producing a few billboards and the like to advertise products available in this future to make the world seem more believable. This will be for one in which robot ladies can purchase various hair styles and weld them in place with the gun in the picture.
